In Memoriam and Celebration

October is breast cancer awareness month. The pink ribbon represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and the charitable goodness of people and businesses who publicly support the breast cancer movement. It is intended to evoke solidarity with women who currently have breast cancer.

October is also domestic violence awareness month. Covid-19 has increased the numbers of an already serious matter. We wear the purple ribbon to bring awareness and show support to those going through.

Both are important things to bring awareness to. Both affect so many people (men can also get breast cancer). Many have been taken by them and many have survived and given hope to others experiencing them. It takes tremendous strength and courage to get through either situation. That is why the special candle for this month combines both of these colors. The candle is to show support for each cause, to honor those who have died, and to celebrate those who have survived.
